Tennessee Lottery History

On April 12, 2000 Tennessee legislation was approved by majorities in both the Tennessee House of Representatives and the Senate, this legislation was to allow a vote to create a lottery in Tennessee. Less than a year later on February 14, 2001 both the Tennessee House of Representatives and the Senate approved to vote on creating a lottery by two-thirds from both parties. A referendum to this legislation would amend the Constitution to allow a lottery fund for college scholarships, and if enough funds remain, a K-12 capital projects and early learning and after-school programs would be distributed fonds. On November 5th, 2002 a statewide referendum is passed to allow a lottery by 58%. The Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation(a quasi-governmental entity) it's goal to operate games and generate funds for education.
